Albrecht Dürer - Apokalypse

The work draws the sight nearer to Dürer's Apokalypse from the iconographics point of view, dividend to two parts - main title and Torture of saint John with respect to the historical events and influence of prominent people determining the times when the work was created. Review of bibliography of the autors who dealed with the topic of Apocalypse in the past is presented here in contrast with contemporary view of this topic. Iconographics works bring us to the 16 lists, wich wont to prepare a ikonology desribtion to the whole work. The conclusion of the work deals with interpretation of The Apocalypse as a planned word for the forthcoming new confession - Protestantism.

The Doctrine of Antichrist and the Coming of Christ at the Beginning of the Unity of Brethren and its Roots in the Czech Reformation

This thesis provides a balanced overview of the active ideological currents in the late Middle Ages in the Czech lands concerning the doctrine of the Antichrist and the second coming of Christ. It not only deals with the religious situation during that period, but also emphasises the political, cultural and social circumstances. The text is divided into seven parts that discuss the apocalyptic sentiment and the eschatological visions prevalent in society in that period. Presented in it are the principal ideas of such prominent reformist scholars and thinkers as Jan Milíč of Kroměříž, Master Jan Hus, Jan Rokycan and Petr Chelčický. The text charts the teachings of these men, as they followed one another, concerning the issues of the concept of the Antichrist and the coming of Christ up to the period of the Hussite revolutionary movement and even later, during the early days of the Unity of Brethren. Special attention is also given to the spiritual circumstances involved in the founding of the Unity of Brethren; there the roots of its founding and its beginnings and its distinctive features are documented in the thesis. The Mystery of the Woman and the Beast: Rhetorical-Narrative Analysis of Revelation 17:1 - 18

The Mystery of the Woman and the Beast Rhetorical-Narrative Analysis of Revelation 17:1-18 This diploma thesis called "The Mystery of the Woman and the Beast" seeks to unveil the mysterious message of Revelation 17:1-18 by applying the rhetorical-narrative analysis to the text. This analysis entails a specific methodology drawn from the synthesis of both rhetorical and narrative criticism with special regard to persuasive features. The conception of the thesis is based on understanding the message of the text in its own right communicated primarily to its own implicit audience distancing itself from premature theologizing often done especially when dealing with the book of Revelation. Due to the narrative focus of the thesis, considerable space is devoted to analyzing apocalyptic literary tradition and literary aspects of the book itself. Attention is paid to the origin of the apocalyptic tradition as well as the nature of its genre together with its specific motifs and function. The book of Revelation is seen as a part of long-developing apocalyptic tradition sharing some common traits while still being original in its own right. The unique qualities of Revelation are then fully explored in the following chapter. Of particular importance are the genre, imagery, intertextuality, and structure of the book....

Apocalypse and the Grotesque in Ken Kesey's Sailor Song

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe and explain the use of grotesque elements in Ken Kesey´s Sailor Song. This novel by a well-known American author contains many of the key themes associated with sociocultural developments in the US in the second half of the 20th century. These include, for example, apocalypse and the impact of environmental change on the life of the main characters of this work. The secondary aim of this work is to describe and explain the occurrence of postmodern elements in this section. Another task of this work is briefly compare the novel of Sailor Song with other Ken Kesey´s works.

The Picture of the Post-Apocalyptic World in Contemporary Anglo-American Fiction

The bachelor thesis deals with the theme of apocalypse, its causes and consequences for civilization in sci-fi and horror novels written by Richard Matheson, John Wyndham, Simon Clark, David Brin, Stephen King and Cormac McCarthy. The introduction describes the term "apocalypse" and briefly characterises the genre of apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction. The literary analysis focuses on individual works which develop the theme of the end or the beginning of the world and deal with post-apocalyptic aspects (adaptability, epidemic, a creation of a totalitarian regime, violence and death). Discussing the novels dealing with the post-apocalyptic theme, this thesis also mentions the theme of a potential threat of apocalypse (the feeling of threat) in the works written by Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and Stephen King.

Eschatology in the case of eminent personalities in the Bohemian Reformatory movement

The work offers a comprehensive preview of opinion streams on the theme of eschatology, final things or also the end of time , in various stages of the development of human society, whether Jewish or Christian, with an emphasis on the medieval period in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown. Iťs based on the biblical texts of the Old and New Testaments, particularly on the New T estament text of the Book of Revelations. It deals with religious situation in the Middle Ages and simultaneously also with political, cultural and social factors. It reveals certain sources of heretical teachings, especially the Vaudois Church, from which eminent theologists' opinions crystallized and mentions the status of heretics in medieval society. It also covers the teachings of John Wycliffe. The work is divided into six parts, in which eschatological moods and vision that reigned i n contemporary societies are substantiated. It analyses them, and literary woeks document the main ideas and opinions of eminent reformátory scholars, such as for example Milíč of Kroměříž, Matěj of Janov, Master Jan Hus and Petr Chelčický. Holiness in Fine Arts

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of holiness in fine arts in all three parts, namely in theoretical, didactic and fine arts level. The first part of the theoretical level focuses on the concept of holiness and individualization of experience with holiness with respect to manifestation of the category in a broad art context. With the use of specialist literature, the second section of the theoretical research follows on obtained findings about the holiness concept and it also deals with sacral space of The St. Wenceslas' Chapel at The Cathedral of St. Vitus and The Chapel of St. Cross at The Karlštejn Castle with regard to the possibility of a strong psychological effect from these venues. The didactic level is the logical outcome and a free inspiration of the theoretical part. It follows not only on the sacral space of both chapels but it also deals with secular usage of pupils. The main aim of all tasks is to guide pupils to think about category of holiness via their own visual expression in cross-subjects connection, that is with regard to social, cultural and historical context.
